MSC Cruises Cuba homeport is first of major cruise lines

MSC Opera to homeport in Cuba

With the United States slowly lifting sanctions on Cuba, we have started to see greater interest from some of the major cruise lines, as they would much prefer to homeport in Cuba, rather than just having it on their itinerary. We already know the likes of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are interested in a homeport of one of their ships there, but MSC will beat them to it.

MSC Opera is to homeport in Cuba from 2015 in Havana, which will be from December to April 2016. However, this is a huge step, one that we assume will be followed by the big cruise lines.

We already know some of the smaller cruise lines call at Cuba, such as Saga, Thomson and Fred. Olsen, although none homeport there.

Booking an MSC cruise departing from Havana, Cuba in 2016 will be available for people in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. We can see that people from the UK will not be able to book a fly-cruise from Cuba, unless that changes in the coming months.
