It was back in March when we learned that Thomson Cruises were to purchase Royal Caribbean’s Splendour of the Seas and to add it to their fleet. However, instead of increasing the fleet to 6 ships, Thomson will be getting rid of Island Escape.
We now have an update for you, as this new ship is to be named Thomson Discovery and its homeport will be Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The ship will relaunch in June 2016, and so we will no doubt learn details of its new itinerary then.
What we find interesting about this is that Discovery will become the largest ship in the Thomson fleet, and what’s more, will give passengers greater cabin options, as around 40 percent of the rooms come with balconies.
The 2016 summer season for Thomson Palma Cruises will be a very good one, as Majesty will join Discovery in Palma, Spirit will be in Malaga, Celebration at Dubrovnik and Dream will be based in Corfu.
