It had already been assumed that Carnival Cruise Line was to announce its intention to build ten new ships in the coming years, but that official number of new Carnival cruise ships is in fact nine. However, these are already in addition to those already on order.
These new ships will be built from 2019 to 2022, and so we have a clear plan of where Carnival wants to be by then. It has been said that these nine new ships will be spread between some of the other cruise lines owned by Carnival, such as Costa, P&O and also Princess.
Not all nine ships will be built by the same shipyard, as they are to be split between Italy’s Fincantieri and Germany’s Meyer Werft and will be built to cater for the different cruise lines and their intended markets, which includes North America, Europe and also China, which is a growing market.
More on the horizon – Carnival does not look set to stop there, because after signing this new deal with the shipyards, the company said there is a good possibility of ordering yet more new ships leading up to 2028.
Carnival currently has a total of 101 ships spread across the many different cruise companies they own, and that is not including these nine new ships or those that are currently on order.
