There seems to be conflicting reports because on one hand we are told that the cruise industry will start to see a small slowdown, yet other sources within the industry believe things are set to grow. However, if a new rumor is anything to go by, we would back the latter instead.
Cruise Industry News has learned that Meyer Werft are all set to sign paperwork along with the Finnish Government to see them take over from STX Finland. That’s not all, as there are said to be even more new ships coming down the line.
We are hearing that Norwegian Cruise Line are set to have two new 200,000 ton ships built, and will be nothing like they have had before because it will be a prototype ship. This could be in reaction to Carnival, as we know the Vista will be an all-new kind of ship in terms of its design as well.
There is more, as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are thought to be working on two new ships as well, which should be announced by Meyer Werft very soon.
It is our understanding that this new ships will also be of the larger construction, and this will no doubt play on cruise lovers minds. This is because of an insatiable need to build larger ships, when smaller 40,000-60,000 would be most welcome. This is because they stand more chance of berthing in smaller ports that often don’t get visited by the larger ones, something that Pearl Seas Cruises plan to take advantage of.
There are some wonderful port destinations out there, and the larger cruise ship companies seem to have forgotten about them.
