Norovirus outbreak on 2014 Royal Caribbean cruise

It’s been a while since we had an outbreak of the Norovirus on a cruise ship, but it looks as though the bug is back. More than 60 people fell ill on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Majesty of the Seas, some of which included the ships crew.

With over 2,500 passengers on board, 66 suffered from gastrointestinal issues, which as we know includes diarrhea and vomiting. While the official cause has not been announced, the cruise line seems to believe that it is the Norovirus bug.

CNN said the ships crew had responded fast to the sickness that was affecting some passengers and those who were treated responded well to the treatment. Majesty of the Seas crew also started intensive cleaning to try to stop the spread of the bug.

Once the ship was docked it underwent a more thorough cleaning process, which the company calls a sanitation process. Passengers who left the ship were given a letter and asked if they had suffered any discomfort or gastrointestinal symptoms, and if they did were able to have their cruise reschedule, but only if they suffered these symptoms within the last three days.
