European cruisers were getting the raw end of the deal several years ago, this is because most of the big cruise ship companies would launch a new ship, only for them to be based in the US. However, things have changed a little over the years, and we have seen Norwegian Cruise Line lead the way.
The company already brings its ship, the Norwegian Epic to Europe during the summer and is to return again for 2015 but on a more permeant basis.
In a twist and proof that at least one large cruise company is taking the European market more seriously, they have made the decision to base Norwegian Epic in the port of Barcelona year round from April 2015.
The 2015 Norwegian Epic itineraries are currently not known and we cannot be certain if this will mean either the Norwegian Spirit or Jade will have to move to another port in order to free up some space.
Whatever happens it will be great to see the Epic and offering cruises from Barcelona year round, as this gives holidaymakers in the UK more scope.
We know that Royal Caribbean will be bringing one of its larger ships to Europe and then there will be P&O Britannia, where its home port will be Southampton, so things are looking up.
