We’ve known about Quantum Of The Seas for several months now, and have already seen RCL order more ships of this class, as well as reporting on her itineraries for 2014-2015, inaugural cruise from Southampton and even her staterooms. However, up until now the ship only existed on paper or computer renderings, which is until now.
Quantum Of The Seas physical construction begins – An important milestone was made, as the first block of keel had been cut and then put into place, which was also done in conjunction with her sister ship, Anthem of the Seas. This is always the first step in a ships construction, and so is a big deal for Royal Caribbean.
The keel, which is essentially a 430-ton block measured 59-ft by 75-ft, had to be lifted into place by an 800-ton crane. We hope to start seeing several videos of Quantum Of The Seas being built over the coming months, as this will be a great way to see some of the amazing features of the new ship for real, instead of those renderings we have seen in the past.
We do hope to see some great virtual tours of the Quantum Of The Seas restaurants in the meantime, as we do not know much on these just yet, and we know eating is one of the main features onboard a cruise ship, well if you love your food as much as we do.
Having said that, you cannot beat a good massage at the spas on these floating hotels, let’s just hope that the Quantum Of The Seas wellness centre will be something spectacular.
