Hurricane Rina affects Allure of the Seas and other cruise itineraries

Hurricane Rina is now said to be affecting more than a dozen cruise itineraries, which now include Allure of the Seas, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises. Over the past few days we have been keeping you updated with how Hurricane Rina is affecting the cruise ships that are currently sailing in the Caribbean and Mexico.

We have already reported about the itinerary changes for Carnival and Celebrity Cruises so we thought that we would update you on the other companies that have now had to change their ports of call.

Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, which is the world’s largest cruise ship was due to stop in Cozumel on Friday but due to Rina the ship will now call at Nassau, Bahamas. Princess Cruises has also cancelled a call to the Cayman Islands on Friday, instead the Island Princess will now stop at Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Norwegian Star is just one of three Norwegian Cruise ships that have been affected by Hurricane Rina and is expected to visit Costa Maya, Mexico instead of Cozumel, while Norwegian Spirit is said to be remaining at sea and the Norwegian Pearl will be heading for Nassau in the Bahamas.

The National Hurricane Center has said there is a strong chance that Rina could strengthen as it turns toward the Yucatan Peninsula and Cozumel, and could very well become a major Category 3 hurricane.
