Two months ago we posted some details about Norwegian Cruise Line asking for a little help in naming two new cruise ships, which are due to sail in 2013 and 2014. The results are now in after a lot of help from the public.
We can now confirm that the Norwegian Getaway will launch in April 2014, and the Norwegian Breakaway in 2013. These two Freestyle Cruising ships were named after a contest with USA Today. The names were decided on because the cruise line felt they best showed what the company was trying to say.
This included the feeling of getting a “Break” away from all the stress at home and at work, which many of us can relate to, especially the feeling you get when looking out to sea on a beautiful morning or evening, while you watch the sun rise and set. The Norwegian Cruise Line also felt that the names reflected their philosophy, and the innovation each ship had.
Virginia’s Dennis Hultman chose the name “Norwegian Getaway”, and Kimberly Powell from Louisiana named “Norwegian Breakaway”. Hultman and Powell are now lucky enough to be invited to the Christening Ceremony of these new cruise ships, and enjoy balcony stateroom accommodation for two people, which shows it’s always good to enter these competitions as you never know you could be the next winner.
230,000 people entered the contest, which ended on August 14, 2011. If you want to learn more about these two new ships, then you should visit ncl.com/breakaway. Do you plan on booking a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line?
