Icelandic Ash Cloud: Disruption to Cruises


As most of you will be aware there has been a brand new volcanic eruption in Iceland. The Grimsvotn volcano erupted at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, and just like the Eyjafjallajokull volcano that erupted last year, the ash cloud which, is around 10 and 15 kilometers in the air is no doubt going to cause travel problems.

Now normally it would be just flights that would be affected but now a days cruise boats can be affected too. According to reports there is a strong chance that cruise boats heading to the Icelandic ports could be affected.

The main season for Iceland cruises does not begin until June, but saying that MSC Poesia departed Kiel in Germany today for an 11-night Iceland and Norway Cruise.

It seems that this 11-night cruise has carried on with its schedule, but is keeping in contact with local authorities and are waiting to be advised on whether they are able to call into the Icelandic ports. You can read more on this news here.
